Wine, Dreads, and Spumoni Zebras!

Hello friends!

Here's what's been happening in my neck of the woods....

Before the temps really started to drop on November 1st I had the pleasure of doing the "Wicked Wine Walk" with my friend, Ronnie. This is a wine tasting done in downtown Kansas City in the Power and Light district. You visit several restaurants, taste wine and eat little nibbles. As you can see we had one helluva time enjoying our wines and taking silly photos!

Guess who got some dreads? Yep, ME! Aren't they AWESOME?! We have kind of been toying around with the idea since we live in Portland. Dreads sure aren't for the faint hearted. They are a TON of work. Lots of little maintenance for nice CLEAN dreads. Know what the best part about them is? I get to make LAMPWORK BEADS FOR MY HAIR :D Woot!

I also didn't get to post my "Bronze Berry Bliss" series of purple and metallic bronze beads in the far right corner. They went SUPER FAST so I think there is only one pair of headpins left and 3 pair of lentils. I really LOVE the metallics and chemical reactions I got with the glass on that series.

I also spent some time playing around with new glass combinations and found when I paired silvered ivory with this awesome older batch of odd lots glass I got this super neato frito metallic mauve! I paired it with another odd lot of this really gorgeous yellow mint green with splashes of aqua. I called this series "Spumoni Zebras" since it kind or reminded me of the ice cream ;) I was excited to hear you all really have been digging the new styles. You can find them in my Etsy shop.

Well this is all the goodness I have for you today, but I am "cooking" up some ROCKIN' new stuff in the studio!

See ya soon! Thanks for stopping by!

Buried in Beads and Did ya see, WE'RE FAMOUS!

Hello friends!

I've been here or well there. Making beads as always. Making, making, making. They have been selling out before I can get them in the shop or posted here! That is pretty exciting! I'm so lucky to have such amazing customers and friends! Thank you all so much!

So a few pics of things that are already gone to prove where I have been spending my time ;)

Yep, they're ALL gone! Pretty huh?! Ok... well mostly. I have some of the lotus focals, but I need to reshoot some pics of them. I am currently working on a magazine submission with them so I needed to make more for the article ;)

Um... YUM! Isn't this AMAZING?! I love it! Yes, it's gone to a new home ;)

and these... yes, Wing Dings. Yes... I know they have been out of stock lately and these are also gone...already.

These are IN STOCK thought so that counts for something, right? Well they are for now. No promises  on how long they will be in the shop ;)

I worked on some more beads in that bright yellow limey palette though. Just didn't get to everything. I made some other beads for a project I had in mind as well. You never know what you will want to use so may as well make a bunch just in case, right?

So here is all of what I made over the last 2 days. Some stuff was kinda random. I will be working and think, "Oh I should try..." So then I stop and make that and then carry on. Kinda A.D.D. I guess, but meh whatever.

Some beach stone spacers in beachy glass colors, more purple Desert Serpents(DS's for short), along with some of those tealy headpins I made um, FOREVER ago! It was a start. I ran out of headpin wires so I only made a few for now. Looky! A Harvest Moon XL focal too to match my little set

Mmmm check out these stone babies! I am LOVIN' that pink and raku with the stone texture! So awesome!

They were awesome enough for 2 photos ;)

I'll admit, I made these beads in the center for my project. As you can see I made PLENTY, but better to have more than not enough ;) I will only need a few for my project.

More Urchins. One for me, the other for the shop. It's already in there ;)

More bright pretties! I was so excited about the set of spacers I made that I made more! Oh and medium coins too! I have been trying to stock some stuff that is currently in magazines, but I am not doing such a great job. The large stone focals are a substitute for the ones we have in Stringing Fall 2013.

Did you know we were FAMOUS?! Yep! Check this out! A WHOLE PAGE! So is this like a glassy centerfold?! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

This is in the current issue of Bead Design Studio.

I made this collage to post with the other beads in my shop like it. This one on the page is still hanging out at the magazine's office. I had to add in my GB info on the bottom. Not to shamelessly promote, but because the collage chopped off the bead if I just used 3 photos.

Well that is all for now. The new piles of beads need to be tied and priced. I will worry about shooting photos tomorrow. I need to hustle on my bead mag submission that I have been secretly been putting off! Shhhh. Lol. See you soon!

SNEAK PEEK- Mini Mixed sets $23-$28!

Hello friends!

It always seems to take me more days to get there than I planned, but I am still early! In case you didn't see the sneak peek on Monday on my facebook page you get to see it here and now. So really what I am saying is that by seeing it here first you only have to wait one day instead of 4 like everyone else ;) You're welcome :D
Here is what I have in store for you in the shop for tomorrow! A sweet little sampling of "little bits". The awesome thing about these mini sets is that you get a fun little mix and they are easy on the budget too! Sets range from $23-$28! Yay! I thought it might be fun to give these mini sets a try since spring is right around the corner.

New ideas for a new time of year. The snow is melting and we are supposed to hit 62 by the weekend. Is spring really coming? No one really knows, but we will take it ;) I have been busily working on some "busy" projects in the studio over the last 2 days. I am even contemplating doing a tutorial on them. It felt really good to just make stuff. They were quick, beautiful, practical, and fun to make. You can't beat that when making new things! Well that is all of the hint I will give you for now.

See you tomorrow!

Bead Soup inspired beads in the shop!

Hello friends!

Well I am super excited about my new designs for the 5th Bead Soup Blog Party! I got to creating some wonderful beads for my designs and thought I would make some extras to share!  I even got into some ACID! Well maybe not the type that first comes to mind ;) I think you will just LOVE my new gooides, I know I do!
Here are the soup beads from Heather that inspired me for this new run of beads.

Ok so you are confused as to why I'm sharing my bead inspiration here instead of on reveal day? Well you all know I am a details person and on the hop day my posts tend to get really long with details. I figured I would break it up this way and share about the beads now and the finished designs for the post date in an attempt to keep my blog short(ha ha).
Here is used our lovely transparent hot pink glass, Rubino Oro(Ruby Gold). I did the stripey design first, but it was too design oriented and Heather's beads are much more organic in style. I did my "Dersert Serpent" design since I thought it would be a lovely compliment to Heather's soup beads.
Now here is where the excitement comes in. I loved the Hot pink above for my design, but in my opinion it's not so pretty etched. So I picked out of my very FAVORITE Messy glass colors, Mermaid. If you zoom in on the pic you can see the difference in shiny and etched. Oh and did you notice that the bubble button dot is SHINY?! >:D  Heather's teal bead is this cross of turquoise and teal so I knew that Mermaid was my color choice since it's also a teal, but more on the blue end.  I thought I would etch the glass to get it closer to matching Heather's beads.

I love the mix of shiny and matte so I put a layer of nail polish over the bubble button dot to protect it from the etching acid. You let the polish dry, etch the bead and then remove the nail polish. VIOLA! Shiny and etchy bead = SUPER SWEET!

So that leads us to the new goodies in the shop!
Desert Serpent Jewel- Ok so this one was actually inspired by my bead swap with Staci of Artisan Accents.  Back for our bead swap she asked if I made the "Desert Serpent" beads in a focal size. Oh, well no, but that's a great idea! So here it is, only with a Jewel dot center :D

Desert Serpent Jewel "Tourmaline"- Can't decide? Love "little bits". Well here ya go! A little of everything in matte and shiny!

Speaking of Tourmaline, did you see the bracelet Malin made with my wing ding in tourmaline colors?
Pretty huh? :)

Desert Jewel "Mermaid" Mmmm yummy matte and shiny! So pretty!

Desert Serpent Jewel "Mermaid"- Focal size! Woo hoo!

Desert Serpent Jewel "Mermaid" set. "normal" size lentils in a set of 3. Yummo!

Well I suppose I should get going. Mom has been patiently waiting to go on a walk with me today. It's so beautiful and sunny outside and in my basement room it's FREEZING! Time to go thaw in the sun! See you soon!

Thanks for stopping by!

More Jewels from the desert- Shop Update

Hello friends!

I suppose you are wondering why there hasn't been more content on my blog recently other than shop updates. Well the reality isn't so amazing so I've been keeping it off of here. I do have some news I will be sharing early next week, but until then I will just get to my shop updates. They really are the bright spot in my day :)

So a few more goodies in the Desert/Midnight theme and a little twist...
"Desert Serpent" these are back in the shop! I just LOVE this style I created. So natural with a burst of rainbowy goodness.  I would have liked to have made more especially some in a focal size, but I ran out of IVORY. Wa, wa, wa...

"Onyx Rainbow Sands" a little sampling of everything awesome in the way of this deserty theme.

"Painted Desert Pods" maybe you remember seeing a few of these that I sent to Staci of Artisan Accents for our swap. Well now how about some for EVERYONE?! :D

Tornado Candy Ruffle Button "Midnight Jewel"- so you remember that new focal kick I got on? How about these colors?! I originally made this to match these mash up sets and the headpins(they sold, but I'll be making more ;)

Desert Serpent "Just Rust"- so you all know how I LOVE red roof tile, right? Well I figured I would give this style I came up with a try on it. WOW! Aren't these awesome? So why aren't there more matching beads to go with these?(I ran out of this color too! More on the way though ;)
I even named these beads after a Fiona Apple song .

Well that concludes my update for now. We actually had a snow day here in Portland the other day. Ricky and I ventured out and took some photos. I will get those edited and up here in a few days :D

See ya soon!
